Mobile GE Vct 64-slice Ct Scanner: Diagnostic Power & Dose Reduction
While the vast majority of CT systems in the Mobile CT Lab market are fairly low slice-count systems there is a growing demand for higher slice-count CT systems to meet the demands for more complicated procedures while at the same time decreasing radiation exposure. Responding to this increased demand we’ve recently introduced the newest offering in our Mobile CT Lab fleet – a Mobile GE VCT 64-Slice CT Lab.
Procedures in a mobile cath lab
A common question we hear people ask is “what types of procedures can be performed in a Mobile Cath Lab?” Well, the short answer is really just about any cases you are comfortable doing in a Mobile Cath Lab. It can be difficult to provide one set answer to this question because each hospital and CV program is unique and the specific need for a mobile lab can vary so it helps to start with a few basic questions.1. WHAT TYPE OF IMAGING SYSTEM?First, what type of imaging system is needed? Do you need to do cardiac cath, vascular procedures, or a combination of both? All of these options are available in our mobile lab fleet. Some mobile labs have a straight cardiac x-ray imaging system with a 9″ or 20 cm detector (small field of view), systems designed to perform coronary procedures. Others are equipped with a vascular imaging system, one with a large 16″ or 40cm detector designed for peripheral vascular procedures. Others still have a “combo” cardiac & peripheral vascular imaging system that can perform both.

New CT System Dose Standards – Avoiding Medicare Penalty HR 4302
TRYING TO DO MORE WITH LESS With all the changes in the healthcare system over the past few years, most of the clients we’ve recently worked with have faced with a similar situation – older outdated x-ray equipment, and the inability to upgrade it. Be it because of limited capital, lower reimbursements, or just plain uncertainty over how things will turn out, many hospitals have simply had to continue using older x-ray equipment until it dies or until they are in a position to replace it with a new system, whenever that may be.For those who find themselves in a similar situation with an older CT scanner system that needs replacing, help may be on the way. Recent legislation passed by the Senate (H.R. 4302, the Protecting Access to Medicare Act of 2014) includes reimbursement reductions for CT equipment that does not meet certain radiation dose optimization standards by January of 2016. So, you may not only want to but need to consider upgrading your CT imaging system soon.
A commitment to philanthropy
There are a number of things that make Modular Devices such a great place to work – our people, our culture, and the work we do, to name a few. But outside of the normal day-to-day operations of running Mobile Cath Labs and mobile CT labs business, one of the great things about Modular Devices is that we take an active role in supporting philanthropic causes that are important to our clients and valued employees.INDIANAPOLIS TS ALLIANCEOne such example is our support for the annual Indianapolis TS Alliance benefit golf outing. This is a benefit that I am involved with, and that’s personal to me, because one of my dearest and oldest friends has a child that was born with Tuberous Sclerosis Complex (TSC) more than 12 years ago. What is Tuberous Sclerosis? Well, that’s exactly what I said when I heard the news because while it’s not an uncommon disease, it is one that most have never heard of before. You can read more about it here. Basically, it’s a disease that causes tumors to show up in various organs (heart, kidneys, brain, etc.) at various times. These tumors can affect the development and function of the organs. In my friend’s case, TS struck in utero and affected the function of his son’s heart, which caused a whole other set of developmental issues as he’s grown. As a way to help raise awareness and the funds needed to someday find a cure for TS, some others and I decided to host a local charity golf outing, and for the past six years, Modular Devices has been the main sponsor of the event. I’m happy to say that my friend’s son is doing well at this time, although he still faces an uphill battle, but thanks in part to the generous support of Modular Devices we have raised more than $25,000 for the TS Alliance through this event.
